One of the Seven Wonders of the World is located just a short distance from Las Vegas and is the perfect stopover for a short excursion.

Carved millions of years ago by the Colorado River and natural geological processes, the Grand Canyon boasts barren beauty, reddish desert colors and stunning sunsets that attract tourists from all over the earth. For Las Vegas visitors, this national treasure is only a short overnight trip, about 365 kilometers from the city.

The easily accessible southern edge of the canyon is the most popular spot for visitors. Much of the Grand Canyon National Park infrastructure is located here, including the Canyon View Information Plaza, which includes the Grand Canyon Visitor Center. It includes guides, brochures, audiovisual displays and helpful interactive features on the region's history, geology and interesting wildlife. Take the free shuttle bus (fee included in the national park admission fee) to visit the other museums and checkpoints on the south bank.
While it can be hard to take your eyes off the canyon's magic, you can step down from the edge to fully appreciate the scenic beauty. Hiking within the canyon brings you closer to the prehistoric plants and corrosive forces of the Colorado River that have eroded layer after layer of rock over millions of years.

For an aerial view, several companies offer charter helicopter flights over the southern edge as well as the more inaccessible north and west edges. From above, you'll truly understand the canyon's phenomenal size, rugged terrain, and breathtaking colors. If you're lucky, you might even get to spot a coyote or California vulture. The temperature usually dips as the sun sets, but sunset events are not to be missed.
Many visitors spend the night here in order to enjoy the gorge for two days. Accommodation in and near national parks ranges from comfortable hotels and country inns to idyllic cottages and campsites. For visitors who don't want to bring their own car, bus and helicopter tours depart regularly from Las Vegas.
